A Winter Walk
I could feel the winter cold,
enter through my coat; touching my skin.
I thought back again over the,
past years and exactly where I had been.

A life filled with heartache,
with all the troubles I had been through.
Illness had caused tough times,
for my close friends and loved ones too.

I noticed a brilliant light,
reflecting somewhere ahead in the dark.
Uncertain of where I was now,
or why the warm feeling inside my heart.

Walking past the next bend,
a quaint church stands there within sight.
Thoughts stir inside my head,
this was what had caused the bright light.

As I neared the front door,
I could hear a voice coming from inside.
A boy was talking so softly,
when I heard what he said I almost cried.

“Jesus, my Daddy’s in heaven,
with you; when is he going to come back?”
“Mom got the news yesterday,
saying Daddy had died somewhere in Iraq.”

“Please let Daddy come home,
so Mom's and Grandma’s crying will end.”
“Grandma said to talk to you,
because you listen and you’re my friend.”

I bowed my head in prayer,
as my heart and mind filled up with love.
Knowing this one small child,
had kept his faith in our Savior up above.

I think about the little boy,
and the reason I was drawn to the light.
When I take a winter walk,
whether it is daytime or the dark of night.

I look at people around me,
with a totally different view than before.
My life has changed for me,
and my days don’t seem so bad anymore.
