Through The Ages

Through the ages there are different people I have known,
with each new experience I have learned life lessons and grown.
Friendships and kindness extended to me along the way,
never knowing when I first met them how long they would stay.

Time seemed to go by so slowly in those earlier years,
enjoying some days when spontaneous laughter turned to tears.
Memories of when you laughed so hard you would cry,
you couldn’t stop laughing no matter how hard you would try.

I remember being excited about soon turning fourteen,
having the latest hair cut and wearing a pair of new blue jeans.
Gradually the years passed until finally I was twenty-one,
I was sure this spelled freedom and days filled with lots of fun.

Instead carefree days were now full of responsibility,
for as everyone knows with life there is no written guarantee.
Never knowing for certain what tomorrow would bring,
I learned early in my life to treasure so many wonderful things.

Changes happened dramatically through the ages,
life lessons, experiences and new people would fill many pages.
Each milestone of life met with guarded anticipation,
because with each change there was a complete transformation.

The young girl I had been all those many years ago,
had matured gracefully into a confident woman with a soft glow.
Silver hair and laugh lines soon etched on my face,
but the images from those younger days would remain in place.

Now, today each year as we look back on the past,
we can’t seem to keep up with the time it all races by too fast.
Before we realize each new day seemingly disappears,
as we reminisce about the memories we had through the years.

When you are traveling the road through the ages,
don't be in too much of a hurry to turn each of those pages.
For each memory you cherish will see you through,
when you remember all the wonderful people you once knew.
