Twilight Time

There is a time between dusk and dawn,
when you are all alone with deeds to reflect upon.
Thoughts of what you did during the day,
if all things you did or said came out the right way.

Were you ready to lend a helping hand,
doing as much as you could to try to understand.
That others are not as fortunate as you,
and need a friend standing by to help them through.

Sometimes life can exert such a heavy toll,
enough to wither any person’s heart and their soul.
Sinking humbly upon their trembling knees,
wondering if anybody cares or can hear their pleas.

Left alone without hearing another voice,
young and old shunned by society, given no choice.
Do you look at a homeless person’s face,
or suddenly turn your head and quicken your pace.

They are silent, the forgotten lonely ones,
searching for the answers to, “What have I done?”
Ignoring the helpless people you will meet,
will not bring you peace or make your life complete.

There in the darkness you toss and turn,
today’s events forgotten for it is not your concern.
Painful images you cannot seem to erase,
of the forgotten and helpless gone without a trace.

When you are there during twilight time,
do you ever feel or get messages however sublime.
But for the grace of God it could be you,
and maybe your turn to reach out is long overdue.
