I still remember
fondly the day when we first met, precious
memories built over those years we will never
forget. A nurse placing a bundle very gently
into my arms, from that day forward
completely captivated with your
charms.
Lots of smiles would soon light
up your little face, images formed forever,
in my heart, that time could never erase. The
fragrance of baby powder drifting up to my
nose, cuddling you close and touching all of
your little fingers and toes.
Worried
when you cried and not knowing what to
do, appointments with a doctor insisting he
take another look at you. Assuring me with
extra food you would soon be alright, and
everyone would be happy and finally sleep
through the night.
Watching as you learn
to crawl across every floor, there were many
new things in the house you wanted to
explore. Finding kitchen cupboards filled
with pots and pans, beating on them happily
with a wooden spoon held in your
hand.
One game you really liked playing
was peekaboo, which would always get you
laughing or bring on a giggle or two. It
didn’t seem very long and you started to
walk, time hurrying by much too quickly and
you soon started to talk.
Beginning
school at the tender age of just five, I
wasn’t sure what to do during the day or how I
would survive. The day for your high school
prom soon was here, already accepted at a
good college, you had chosen your
career.
Ready then to marry your high
school sweetheart, exchanging wedding vows
and promising you will never be
apart. Reminiscing back on all of those
wonderful years, wondering where the time
went, my eyes suddenly fill with
tears.
The telephone interrupts my
journey into the past, bringing news that
from this day forward would stay
unsurpassed. “Mom, I thought you would want
to know right away, it won’t be long and you
will be a grandmother some time today."
We grabbed our coats as we headed for
the door, ready for the adventure of being
grandparents was hard to ignore. Sitting here
tonight with a newborn to gently hold, I was
looking forward to watching this new circle of
life unfold.
The circle of life remains
and stays never ending, when you go through
each phase there should be no
pretending. Aware you would also take this
same journey too, knowing memories built will
eventually help you make it through.
