Days of summer are now here,
I want to go outside before they disappear.
Thoughts turn of going to the zoo,
something Mom promised me we would do.
I want to go to the pet shop today,
to find a special friend with whom I can play.
Get a little puppy of my very own,
he can sleep in my room and I’ll never be alone.
I wonder what color he will be,
Mom says, we will just have to wait and see.
She said he would be my friend,
always there, protecting me until the very end.
Their little tail always wiggling,
kissing me all over and I can’t stop giggling.
Following me everywhere I go,
wanting again another ball for me to throw.
Easy to take care of, I think,
need to feed him and give him water to drink.
I wonder then about his name,
knowing soon my life will never be the same.
I have a tricycle I can ride,
but sometimes I cannot always go outside.
There are plenty of toys for me,
a brand new slip and slide over under the tree.
My swim suit is fun to wear,
‘cause in the summer it is really hot out there.
There is a hose to get a drink,
I don’t have to run inside to the kitchen sink.
I would like to talk some more,
but Mom called me, we are going to the store.
If you want to visit me again,
I’ll be back soon, bringing home my new friend.
