When you were just a little boy of
four, your daily pleas to go the park were
hard to ignore. Once a week we would go to
the playground, playing there for hours with
the treasures you found.
First going
high, up in the air, on the swings, memories
return of it being one of your favorite
things. After spotting the seesaw off you
would soon run, for this was summertime when
you could really have fun.
Before long a
ride on the merry-go-round, spinning it so
fast I was sure you would hit the
ground. Painted with different colors to
delight everyone, a playground built for
children to enjoy and have some
fun.
There was a huge wooden slide for
the kids to try, climbing to the top and soon
down the front you would all fly. All
giggling and laughing every time without a
care, fun days of summer there are none which
can ever compare.
So many things there to
play on and to explore, something stood right
in the middle you had climbed before. It was
a really large wrought iron silver
rocket, off you would go, a slingshot hanging
from your back pocket.
I didn’t know you
were going all the way to the top, when I saw
you, the first time, it just about made my heart
stop. There was my little boy of four waving
proudly to me, screaming out with delight,
“Hey Mom, I’m up here, can you
see?”
Although I was scared and so afraid
you would fall, all these childhood memories
spent with you then, I fondly recall. Because
when you were just my little boy of four, so
charming and polite you were hard for anyone to
ignore.
Now so many years for us both
have passed by, precious times spent which
sometimes brings a tear to my eye. I can’t
believe today how all the years have
flown, you now have three growing children of
your very own.
There are some words I
would say today to you, spend quality time
with your young children whatever you
do. Because before you know it the time will
soon pass, be sure you too have shared
moments with them which will last.
