Migraine Pain

A migraine starts on one side of my head,
the beginning of which brings such dread.
Aware already the symptoms as they start,
far too many days lost for the weary heart.

My life spent of trying my best to be free,
from migraine pain which won't let me be.
Sudden nausea and sensitivity to the light,
experience tells you, something isn't right.

Then intense pain comes on the right side,
no place to run to, no where you can hide.
Escaping from noise is sought right away,
sometimes just laying in the bed for a day.

Trying not to let migraine pain win again,
wondering what caused this one to begin.
A headache so intense, you don't dare cry,
you can’t explain the pain, even if you try.

Allergies to pollens, fragrance and foods,
quickly brings about a shift in the moods.
Carefully reading all food content labels,
asking first what is served from any table.

Sodium nitrate also called sodium nitrite,
will give you a migraine, for sure tonight.
Coffee and chocolate are major offenders,
bringing you down in complete surrender.

Medications you swallow, as you’re told,
soon become a "trigger" to slowly unfold.
Alcohol beverages, red wine, even a beer,
some of the drinks you should not go near.

Don’t attempt to cough or bend your head,
you will feel better keeping it level instead.
I really want to share a few of these things,
migraine sufferers knows the pain it brings.

There is help for anyone with migraine pain,
talk to your doctor and they should explain.
Please don’t give up hope, whatever you do,
there are new medicines to help us through.
