Lilacs and Lace

In the quiet of the evening,
After the sun has finally gone down.
The moon and stars are all out,
Silence prevails because no one is around.

I find myself walking alone,
Headed once more back downtown.
Passing by the local bridal shop,
Glancing again at my satin wedding gown.

Next week was going to be our,
Long awaited beautiful wedding day.
White roses to be bordered by,
Lavender lilacs and lace in my bouquet.

Walks down to a lovers garden,
A very special place where we often met.
So many happy times together there,
We each promised we would never forget.

An unexpected business trip,
Far across the ocean to a distant land.
I did not know it was the last time,
What happened I still do not understand.

The Boeing 747 had just taken off,
Rising up quickly 13,000 feet into the air.
The tv showed the plane exploding,
Debris and fires were scattered everywhere.

The second time it was on the news,
I hoped maybe you had missed your flight.
Because if you truly had been aboard,
How was I going to make it through the night.

Your Dad called and said, “I’m sorry,
He won’t be coming home to us anymore.
His black briefcase with his initials,
Has been found washed upon the shore.”

I try not to think about our wedding,
Anymore or of white roses, lilacs and lace.
Just to always keep in my memory,
Your last loving smile which lit up your face.

Please save a place right beside you,
Promise you will always wait there for me.
I love you still with all my heart,
And it will last throughout all eternity.
