The
first clue I had we were going to the drags that
Saturday, Was when we got off of the freeway
heading just one way. Pomona N.H.R.A Drag
Racing Finals was all the sign said, I
couldn’t believe what my eyes had just
read.
All of the drag racing terminology
I would need to learn, Staging lane,
qualifying, pre-stage, and doing a burn. Red
lighting, deep stage, heads up, speed trap and
E.T. My head was filled with racing terms so
completely new to me.
N.H.R.A drag racing
is really an all day affair, You need to come
early, stay late but make sure you
prepare. Bring along a hat, sunglasses, and a
blanket for the stands, So you can try later
to maybe warm your body or your
hands.
Fans can get a pit pass before the
eliminations are to begin, Watching everyone
tuning up their cars hoping today they would
win. We were able to see all of the cars,
mechanics and drivers, You couldn’t help but
wonder who would be among the
survivors.
Back to the stands and wait
patiently for the qualifying to
start, Cheering for the race car or driver we
liked most with all of our heart. Drag cars
slowly moving up to the staging area what a
sight, Cars jumping from pure power enough
for any drag racing fans delight.
Cars
were motioned up to “stage” right before the
Christmas tree, Who was the best car and
driver, well we would all soon see. Every
race driver there, their eyes fixed, waiting for
the green light, They had just a quarter of a
mile down the track to get it all
right.
At the end of the day everyone
knew who was the best, Who had taken first
place and with stood the final test. These
awesome drag race drivers and cars would be back
again, Visit any Friday or Saturday so you
too can see who will win.
